Southern Argentina
The Deseado Massif
The Deseado Massif in southern Argentina is one of the most prolific epithermal gold and silver regions known in the world. Located in the mining-friendly province of Santa Cruz, it is host to many past and currently producing gold and silver mines, including the world-class Cerro Vanguardia (AngloGold-Ashanti) and Cerro Negro (Newmont) Mines.
The Deseado Massif is young in terms of a mining jurisdiction and has exceptional discovery potential. Modern precious metal exploration and mining started in the 1990s. The two largest mines in the region, Cerro Vanguardia and Cerro Negro, began production in 1998 and 2014, respectively. A more recent mine of significance, Cerro Moro, began production in 2018.
Infrastructure in the region is extensive, providing road access to most areas. Elevations are typically less than 1,000 metres, which makes year-round exploration possible in much of the area.
La Manchuria Project
La Manchuria is a near-surface, high-grade gold and silver deposit in the Deseado Massif, with only shallow drilling.
Astra’s inaugural drill program in April-May 2025 produced spectacular grades near surface of up to 199.3g/t gold (LM-107A) and 8,356g/t silver (LM-108A – see June 10 & 25, 2025 news releases.) Astra’s geologic model has proved very predictive and opened the known deposit in all directions.
Astra is primarily targeting the high-grade “feeder zones” similar to a Cerro Negro-style deposit, but has also materially expanded the disseminated bulk-tonnage deposit, which remains open in all directions.
There are multiple underexplored regional targets at La Manchuria which indicate the presence of a large and extremely fertile epithermal system, largely concealed by post-mineral volcanics.
